THE LAWN

Welcome to another strip of the “Lawn”.

Although it has not been too busy at the club lately, it still seems bustling with activity and developments.

We have heard this week of the passing of our long time member and Life Member Cavell Morgan, In her 100th year. She was an immense part of the club throughout the years and made so many friends, young and old along the way. I for one have had the privilege of knowing her since when I first started at PLTC ( only 10-12 years ago), and she was a strong charismatic woman. Her tennis had eased off somewhat by then, and yet she was still playing a formidable game and in her 90s! What great energy. I did also discover that she swam almost very day at the beach when she was living in Kohimarama. I feel privileged to have known her, (as many of you will),  and I aspire to live as she did. To have played her last game of tennis with her was a thrill. So we offer from the club our biggest condolences to her family.

With the new lights being installed, the night games have been well lit! Only on the top bay for now, but the lower bay lights are to come soon. We are awaiting a few new poles. Then Lights Camera Action! Our lighting will then meet ITF tournament level, and we can feel proud to welcome top players from near and afar, as well as our own amazing members of course!

See the notes below (and as mentioned in past Lawns) re Internet and door locking for security during the darker evening months. Also, please remember, no dogs.

Also Super Sundays SS is back this Sunday. It was a great event last month and really does prove to be a fun mixed board play, and only just for a few hours on Sunday afternoon.

Please enter your Juniors for the JUNIOR Club Champs here as Feleti will be making up the draws soon. All welcome if you are under 18 of course. No need for expert level - all levels are welcome to play. It is just such a tremendous experience for our new comers as well. Please remember Goran's holiday coaching and also Adam has a few juniors before school.

Scroll down for this months Mid Week Ladies tournament result. This is a great morning of fun for the ladies. We have been blessed with beautiful weather so far this year and enjoy meeting new members along the way.

We welcome any news or relevant information relating to the club and its members, so please do get on touch with me here, and I will endeavour to write up in the Lawn. Oh and we LOVE photos!!

With a heavy heart..

It is with great sadness that we have lost , yet we will never forget, Cavell Morgan from the PLTC family.

Our sincere condolences to the family,

Not only a Life Member,  Cavell was a successful President and long serving member to the PLTC. She had many great friends here at the club and had excellent skills on court especially that cheeky slice or drop shot that I received on one of the last games she played on a Mid week Ladies day at PLTC.

She will be deeply missed by so many who knew her. Her service is this Saturday. Please see further details on the link below.

Good news the Light installers have now competed the top bay and what a successful process this has been and huge improvement on court. We have had soo much positive feedback and can't wait until the lower bay is competed.

MID WEEK LADIES MONTHLY TOURNAMENT

A wonderful yet slightly lighter turnout for today's Mid Week Ladies Monthly tournament. Once again an array  of yummy offerings was brought in by the players for a shared late morning tea. The weather was excellent and play was sporting. Top prize with dice and tennis  play was Sally Spencer, congratulations to you and thank you to Gary Ivory for donating the Bubbles for this MWL via Kat Bamford. Very much appreciated!

ARCHIVES

Attached is the full article from 1972 and I hope you can decipher as it's a tad small….My apologies… If the text is too small, you should be able to copy the file, open it into a graphics capable app, and then expand the file size to enable you to read the text. I can't recommend enough that one takes the time to read these. What a wonderfully written report on such a remarkable milestone back there in 1972! 100 years young, and now we have surpassed the 150 year mark. I ponder to think what the club will be like on another 48 years. Can someone let me know as I may be a bit deaf or blind by then, yet I hope to still be at least playing and a full paying member.

INTERNET AT THE CLUB
