Welcome OLYMPICS What a terrific venue Paris is for the Summer 2024 Summer Olympics. Then again, Tahiti would be a lovely and warm place to be right now with the amazing surfing. The sports on display at the summer 2024 Olympics have been great to catch on the TV, and I wonder if any of our club members are attending the games live in Paris? If you are lucky enough to be there please send us a pic of your adventures. Other than the impressive tennis, I have been consumed by the equestrian, not so much the incredible talent of the teams eventing and jumping, but rather I have been awed with the absolutely stunning venue for the equestrian. For those who don't know, the event is held at the glorious Château De Versailles. A breathtaking venue with the most nobel scenery. Every event with the equestrian has a spectacular backdrop. Similar to something out of a period movie. I know each of us has a special sport we like to view every four years, and it's fun to see some rather different codes on display. Archery has had me on edge surprisingly, and the swarovski crystals on the USA gymnastics team have been dazzling! Apparently, each leotard has 6,359 crystals for each leotard and if sold in stores would retail for around $3,000 USD. Oh to have that budget. Anyway, back to our beloved tennis. I am loving the clay court action yet again this year- what a treat, just slightly disappointed to see Rafa suffer against Novak again. Yet it was a decent tussle, and fun to watch two 37/38 year olds battle it out. There in turn is a great achievement to be still playing top level tennis at that age. It was so good to see our own Kiwis, Lulu and Erin partner up, and I am sure they will continue to make waves in the future. The formidable partnership of Alcaraz and Rafa is on my watchlist and I am sure you are all enthusiastic to see those matches. Best of Luck for all the NZ teams competing. |
