Parnell hosted a Tennis Seniors Auckland mid-winter tournament on Saturday 23 July, which attracted well over 60 entries from within Parnell and around Auckland. The tournament was played on a gloriously fine mid-winter's day, with 12 teams, each of five players, competing in a round-robin competition. At the end of the day, Team Jabeur (named for Ons Jabeur, this year's Wimbledon finalist) beat Team Sabalenka in the final, but a great deal of competitive tennis was enjoyed by all the teams. We were honoured to have Patsy Laird, a Parnell member through the 1940s and 1950s, participating. 

The tournament halted briefly for Sal's pizza in the middle of the afternoon, and was followed by a beautiful Paella dinner, cooked onsite over the course of the afternoon by Paella Pan. A huge thank you to our sponsors: Sal's Pizza, and Racket Academy and Ferrero Rocher who both supplied a range of prizes. As luck would have it, Patsy's name was drawn out of the hat for the first spot prize, and took hame a brand new tennis bag from Racket Academy.
